Welcome to the tribute page for Miguel Caro, a cherished individual whose life seamlessly blended compassion, wisdom, and artistic excellence. Director, dancer, choreographer, maestro, costume designer, and artist, are a few words used to describe Miguel Caro. His Fiesta Mexicana Dance Company has been noted as the finest, most unique, and most professional Mexican folkloric dance company in the State of New Mexico. Fiesta Mexicana Dance Company consists of adult dancers especially selected by Miguel. The dancers are New Mexicans who love to dance and are proud to represent this beautiful aspect of Mexican heritage.
A native of Mexico City, Miguel danced with Amalia Hernandez’ Ballet Folklorico de Mexico and Sylvia Lozano’s Ballet Nacional de Mexico before moving to Albuquerque. He became a United States Citizen in 1983 and established Fiesta Mexicana in Albuquerque since 1978.
Miguel’s great enthusiasm and love for Mexican culture are demonstrated through his dance presentations and in his originally created costumes. The costumes are noted for being beautifully and intricately designed, while keeping as many traditional details as possible. All costumes are Miguel’s original creations and are handmade and hand-embroidered by Miguel and his sister, Beatriz Caro Zaragosa, who lives in Mexico City.
Fiesta Mexicana’s dance presentations are creative and incomparable. The company’s repertoire consists of dances from almost all the states of Mexico and a set of Aztec dances. The dancing consists of intricate footwork and has been described as poetry in motion.
In 1999, Miguel was the recipient of a Bravo Award for Excellence in the Arts presented by the Albuquerque Arts Alliance. He was named the Arts Educator of the Year for his dedication and enthusiasm in teaching the people of New Mexico the beauty of Mexican Culture through dance.
Miguel's influence extended beyond our community. He taught at the University of New Mexico for several years, sharing his expertise and passion with students. His remarkable talent and dedication to Folklórico dance also earned him appearances on the David Letterman Show in 2001 and several features on PBS, bringing his artistry to a broader audience.
